Result: 4.6/5.0 Nice smooth shave with plenty of creamy lather. The Proraso Red has wheat germ oil instead of eucalyptus in it. A different cream altogether but just as good. Hard to find. I'm definitely liking the Lucky Tiger Vanishing Cream to finish off the shave with.

Result: 4.1/5.0 Much better today. I paired up the Feather with the Gillette TTO and the IP Blade with the 38C Merkur. I re-opened the nick from yesterday just a little. Not unexpected. The rest of the shave was just fine. First pass was with Gillette and the rest of the shave with the 38C. The Ogallala Bay Rum soap just keeps getting better. A little aging has made an already very good soap into an even better soap. Top it off with their great aftershave and I'm in Bay Rum heaven. The Tweezerman brush is the brush that could. Nice little travel brush and if you lose it, it's no big deal. I am really enjoying all my new hair tonics and shampoos from Pinaud Clubman and Lucky Tiger. Lucky Tiger is discontinuing a lot of products though and that is kind of sad. I called them and the demand is just not there. Latest victims are Lucky Tiger Special Formula Hair Tonic, SDR Shampoo, 3 Roses Hair Tonic and Sur Lay Hair Tonic. I was able to find some 3 Roses Hair Tonic and some SDR Shampoo but it will be a hunt for the others.

Result: 2.8/5.0 Must of have been an omen for the Patriots losing yesterday. The Ninja Shave got me on the bottom of my right neck hollow with 2 weepers and a nick. I really need to stay away from that combination. I don't need to put a Feather into a Merkur Slant Bar. At least it healed up by game time. The TOBS Soap is very nice and the BK8 has enough backbone to handle the hard soap.

Soap Definitions

I find soaps can be very confusing and I don't always know what my shave soap is. For the most part, it doesn't matter. It either works for me or it doesn't when I shave but I like to know what I put on my skin at times. If you're not sure, you can always ask a soap maker what the soap base is and process. Always a good idea to know if a scent is Fragrance Oil or Essential Oil too.

Hot Process Soap (HP):
Adding an additional heat source to shorten the cure time on soaps.

Cold Process Soap (CP):
Relies on the release of heat from lye to make the soap. Needs 3-6 weeks of cure time.

Melt & Pour Soap (M&P):
Ready made soap. Just remelt and add scents or other ingredients and pour into molds. Glycerin based.

Milled Soaps:
Single or Triple Milled just means how many times it went through the roller process. Glycerin is extracted from the soap and the resulting dense soap is powdered, put into a hopper with scents and colorants and rolled between steel rollers. It's then pressure extruded into molds and set to cure. Lasts a long time but the glycerin is missing.

Soap Bases:
Glycerin
Tallow (Animal Fat)
Vegetable Fat (Olive Oil, etc.)
Lanolin
Milk (Goat, Cow, etc) in Lye Solution

These are just a number of different ways to make soap. I tend to like the Cold Process Glycerin and Tallow based soaps and also the high end milled soaps.

Result: 4.7/5.0 Wow, took some old and took some new, put them together and came up with a great shower and shave. I was one happy camper this morning. I'm still rubbing my face six hours later. I got a bunch of stuff from Appleton Barber Supply last night and went nuts last night and this morning. I used some moisturizer last night. A little goes a long way and don't put it on just before bed. The other items I used this morning. The super dandruff shampoo is weird. Put it on dry hair and rub in thoroughly. Add water a little at a time and you'll get this really thick creamy lather. Rinse well. The 3 Purpose Hair Tonic with fine oil was just what I needed to replace the discontinued Special Formula Hair Tonic I love so much. I checked with the manufacturer and there isn't any more so this replacement is a good thing. Finally, you want minty menthol in your aftershave? Wow, this certainly delivered the goods and it's a cream. Using the West Indian Limes Shame Cream and then finishing off with the Vanishing Cream and Citrus Musk Aftershave. My face felt great. Even the dentist this morning commented on my shave.
